Style your Drees home for one last summer soiree

We can’t believe it either, but summer’s almost over! As this season draws to a close, consider styling your outdoor living space for one more summer soiree.

Drees homeowner Tara Berger from the entertaining resource One Stylish Party dressed up our Bedford home in Brunswick Hills, Ohio for a sweet summertime celebration.

The Bedford provides the perfect backdrop for a summer party. A striking stone fireplace serves up visual interest and functionality – it provides ambiance and a casual space for conversation if the gathering runs into the evening hours.

When hosting a summer get together, Tara recommends picking a theme to give direction to the décor and food. In addition to selecting a theme, it’s also important to set the tone for the party. Pick a few accent colors and weave them throughout the patio space through the use of linens, throw pillows, potted plants, serving ware and more.

“For this bright and colorful party, I chose to incorporate pops of lemon yellow and cobalt blue, which contrasted beautifully with the white siding and natural stone fireplace in the outdoor patio,” Tara said.

Another element that can’t be overlooked when designing an outdoor living area – spaciousness. It’s vital to have enough space for seating as well as room for a buffet line if you plan on hosting a lot of parties in the summertime. (We highly recommend a taco/margarita bar, for what it’s worth.)

An outdoor party doesn’t always require for a formal sit-down dinner. Tara’s tip: Have a signature drink, keep the food simple and consider setting up a buffet so guests can help themselves to food as they’d like.

“Make sure there are plenty of seating groups for guests to gather at their leisure. Low conversation tables also work well when hosting an outdoor patio party in lieu of a traditional dining table,” Tara shared.

Consider designing a covered porch so the party can go on rain or shine. Most of our floor plans offer a covered patio space, and with some floor plans, you have the option of extending your porch to create an area that is spacious enough to accommodate even the largest crowds.
