Date night in: A romantic, fireside picnic for your Valentine

Skip the date night out this Valentine’s Day and have a romantic night in with your special someone! (Date night out is *so* 2019, anyway. 😉) And while a homemade dinner is always a sweet gesture, consider trying something different this Valentine’s Day – like a playful picnic in the family room.

And don’t forget about the friends – Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate all types of love! We partnered with Drees homeowner Tara Berger from One Stylish Party to illustrate how to properly celebrate both romance and friendship from the comfort of your home.

A fireside picnic – no reservations required

Skip the crowd and cozy up next to the fire with your lover and a glass of wine! Our spacious family rooms make the perfect setting for a romantic, fireside picnic. This Valentine’s Day date night takes a bit of prep to plan, but the thoughtful details are sure to wow your partner.

Tara offered the following tips to make for a perfect picnic:

Assemble a cheese tray ahead of time

Pick two to three of your favorite cheeses and arrange on a platter with fresh fruit, crackers and nuts. There is no right or wrong way to create a cheese tray, so get creative and don’t overthink the presentation.

Set up the picnic space

Make your indoor picnic location comfy with plush blankets and pillows and use a small tray or table to hold the cheese tray and wine.

Add a few romantic touches

Incorporate a box of chocolates, a bouquet of roses or maybe even some floating heart balloons to decorate your family room. Pro tip: Stick with Mylar balloons that can be blown up ahead of time and float for several days so you do not have to fill the balloons the day of the picnic.

And if you don’t have a fireplace, that’s okay! Who says you can’t have wine and cheese from the privacy of your owner’s suite, or even cuddled up on the couch.

Galentine’s Day soiree with sweet treats

Don’t forget to spread the love to your friends this February! A Galentine’s party is the perfect opportunity to put out a spread of sweet treats and catch up with your girlfriends over a glass of bubbly.

Use the ample space your kitchen island offers to create a spread of treats and candies! And your range hood is the perfect place to hang a festive Valentine’s Day themed banner.

For a special Galentine’s Day soiree, Tara recommends hosting the party after dinner or between meals so you can focus on serving treats and light finger foods instead of a full meal.

“I picked up a strawberry cake and buttercream cookies from a local bakery that I served with a variety of Valentine’s Day themed candies,” Tara shared.

Utilize your butler’s pantry or wet bar to create a mimosa bar with various types of champagne, juices and fresh fruit.

“Having guests mix up a drink to their liking is a fun ice breaker. It also provides a mingling spot throughout the party,” Tara said.

For decorations, try incorporating fresh flowers, creative signage and different risers to add visual interest to your dessert display and beverage station.
