Homeowner Spotlight: Meet Marcello and Tamika

They might have downsized in terms of space, but Marcello and Tamika carefully selected a Drees floor plan so they could have everything they needed (including a wine room) on a single story. You’d never guess it, but the pair are empty nesters; their 23-year-old son is a Staff Sergeant in the Army, and their 19-year-old daughter serves in the Navy. The couple rented for two years before they fell in love with their amenity-rich community and selected Drees to build a home that was perfect for two.

The couple sat down to share their top takeaways for designing a home that fits your unique lifestyle needs.

What floor plan did you choose and what attracted you to this design?

We chose the Gabriel. What attracted us most was the ranch-style design and the fact that the home was accessible without having to travel up stairs. While the floor plan can be quite deceiving from the outside, the Gabriel is very spacious with wide hallways and extra room for entertaining. Other attractions include the porch and bump-out in the kitchen and living room area.

As you have watched your new home’s design come to life, what have been your favorite spaces and features?

Our favorite spaces include the open living room and kitchen concept as well as our flex room, which is being utilized as a lounge/wine room.

What did you enjoy most about the building process?

What we enjoyed most about the building process was working with our Market Manager Lauren Hays. We could not imagine how the process would have been without her assistance along the way. Lauren provided us with constant updates, and most importantly, shared her own building experiences, which benefitted us in the long run.

What advice would you give others who are interested in building a home?

We recommend obtaining ideas early in the process from apps such as Pinterest. Also, take advantage of visiting the Design Center before your scheduled appointment, and it wouldn’t hurt to invite your Realtor along for advice. Lastly, highly consider the plot of land you’re building the home on. It’s very soothing to look out the back of our home and see the beautiful fall leaves, not to mention the peacefulness.

Why did you choose to build with Drees?

We chose Drees mainly due to the simplicity of the entire process and their honesty. Our neighborhood is up and coming, so we had the option to choose from many, but Drees floor plans already came with a lot of features, which made the decision process quicker and cost-effective. The quality of the home is unmatched to include energy efficient appliances, a built-in home pest defense system, fresh air ventilation system and much more.
