Homeowner Spotlight: Meet the Eggers

As a family of seven, the Eggers needed a spacious home. It was not only important that they could comfortably cater to the needs of their family, but they also wanted a space where they could easily entertain extended family and friends. Steve and Lauren decided to build a Drees home in an intimate community nestled in one of Cleveland’s most desirable suburbs.

Additionally, Lauren is the author behind the Healthy Mom Project and had visions of creating a home that supported her passion points. She enjoys helping others create healthy habitats and empowering women with the knowledge they need to make decisions that support a vibrant lifestyle. Her new gourmet kitchen provides the perfect place for capturing recipes to share with readers through her blog.

Lauren sat down to share some insights on their home building journey with us.

What floor plan did you choose and what drew you to this design?

We chose the Monticello floor plan, because of how big and open the layout is. We have a handful of kids and love to entertain. We enjoy having family and friends over for birthday parties, holidays and just because. We love having a home that allows us to comfortably host these things.

What did you enjoy most about the building process?

We loved to watch the building process as a family. We made family trips to the house to watch it come alive all the time. It made it more special to have the kids watch it too.

As you have watched your home come to life, what have become your favorite spaces and features?

The kitchen was my personal favorite space to watch. The time I walked in and it was finished was like a breath of fresh air! Honestly, I couldn’t even believe we were able to call this home! It is truly our dream house that became a reality.

My other favorite part of the house is the covered back porch. It’s so quaint and beautiful. I drink my coffee there every morning. It’s such a bonus that we have woods in the backyard too. It is so therapeutic being on our beautiful porch!

Additionally, we made the Monticello’s sunroom a playroom and Drees even designed built-in drawers to pair with our TV. It turned out so cute!

Lastly, we love the home’s huge windows. They are beautiful and make the interior so bright.

What advice would you give others who are interested in building?

I am not good with color/design. Because of that, we had a designer come with us to assist with our selections at the Drees Design Center. This was critical for us, but may not be for everyone. She thought of things and had visions that we wouldn’t have had.

I would also recommend showing up on site and being present throughout the build.

Why did you choose to build with Drees?

We chose Drees Homes because of the customization. We also liked how quickly the house could be built. We had a lot of wants and needs, and we got them all! For example, Drees even put an addition on the Monticello. We needed five bedrooms minimum, so we added a bedroom upstairs for our oldest.
