Winter brings about many ways to connect and spend quality time with family and friends. But as homeowners, we’re all well aware that they are many seasonal home maintenance to-dos that we must make time for each year. To make it easy on you we’ve put together a list that will ensure you’re in great shape for the fast approaching winter months. Once you check these off your list you can start making your list of fun wintertime to-dos!
Here are our Handy Homeowner Reminders to get your home ready for dropping temperatures.
- Clean Gutters
Your gutters must be cleared from debris, especially after all the leaves have fallen. A debris-clogged gutter can cause a leaky roof or water damage to the interior or exterior of your home. So this is must do! Keep in mind though, that gutter cleaning is one of the most dangerous home maintenance projects. You may prefer to hire an insured professional to do the job twice a year.
- Well Watch
Remove leaves, grass clippings, and debris from window and area well drains.
- Pump Check
Check the sump pump for proper orientation.
- Rain Gear
Make sure that your windows, doors, and the area under the house around the foundation are watertight. Caulk any openings.
- Spout Off
Shut off the outdoor water supply. Remove hoses and shut the valve leading to outside faucets to prevent the possibility of freezing.
- Wind Proof
Caulk or install weather stripping around doors and windows if they become the source of air leaks or cool drafts.
