Episode 20: A Well-designed Space for the Perfect Date Night

Hi there! Welcome to the “Ask Alexa” series. I’m Alexa Drees, the Design Center Director at Drees Homes, and I’m excited to bring you weekly tips, advice, and answers to your dilemmas to help make designing your dream home an easy and enjoyable process. Each week, I’ll be rolling out a new feature. (If you missed our first 19 videos, you can watch them here.)

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, we’re talking about the perfect setup for a romantic evening at home. As we have discussed earlier, the kitchen has always been the heart of the home, which rings especially true when cooking up a special meal for you and your loved one. Here are the key features to consider when designing a space that is the perfect match for romance:

First, select an oversized island that showcases a gorgeous non-porous quartz countertop. There are no such thing as wine stains with this design!

Then, choose a modern oversized pendant lighting on dimmers and under cabinet lighting to really give off that special ambiance. Talk about setting the mood!

And last, but not least, go for an ample sized gas cooktop and range, plus a sink in the island, to easily accommodate two cooks in the kitchen.

With these key components, you’re all set for romance. You just need to select a bottle or two of wine and a glorious menu!

Join us next week as we weigh in on listener questions. I’ll be sharing my insights on what it is like to go through the selection process and what you can expect when building a home. All the best,
Alexa Drees
