Pantone’s Color of the Year Revealed!

Pantone, known globally as the color authority, released its annual color of the year this month. 2018 is officially the year of Ultra Violet. As a vibrant departure from Greenery (2017’s fresh and organic Color of the Year), Ultra Violet is a deep, blue-based purple—darker than lavender, cooler than plum, but brighter than eggplant—with cosmic undertones to evoke “originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.”

Pantone picked the provocative purple shade in tribute to “the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.”

When it comes to color for your home, Ultra Violet can seem intimidating at first.

So, how exactly do you incorporate this striking, regal shade of violet into your living spaces? You could think big, bold and monochromatic (think: couches, draperies, armchairs).

Or, if you can’t quite commit that thoroughly, you can accent with hints of Ultra Violet throughout select nooks to add depth and energy to anything from bookshelves and tabletops to throw pillows and rug accents.
