Hi there! Welcome to the “Ask Alexa” series. I’m Alexa Drees, the Design Center Director at Drees Homes, and I’m excited to bring you weekly tips, advice, and answers to your dilemmas to help make designing your dream home an easy and enjoyable process. Each week, I’ll be rolling out a new feature. (If you missed our first three videos, you can watch them here.)
In our inaugural spotlight, we kicked off the series with a discussion on all things backsplash. We covered strategic considerations to help you feel confident and secure in your design decision. In our second week, we took a deeper dive into smart material and color selections for backsplashes as well as touched on the backsplash styles we’re seeing less of these days. Most recently, we shared common scenarios that we experience while working alongside homeowners at the Design Center and how we can help lighten the load when it comes to making material selections.
Now, we’re talking backsplash DIY, where to find the best selection of backsplash design options and how bold you should go when selecting a backsplash.
To Do or Not to Do: The Backsplash DIY Debate
While adding a backsplash is something you can do later, I always recommend including it with the construction of your home. Not only do you have your own personal Design Consultant to help you make the right choice, but you also don’t have to deal with the hassle of having a tile installer invade your new home or deal with doing it yourself!
Where to Find the Best Inspiration for Backsplash Design
Along with our Design Center, our Pinterest page is an excellent source of inspiration as it features ideas from the ten cities we build in across the country. I also love exploring design magazines and TV shows to get new ideas.
The Ultimate Debate: Should I Go Bold or Stay Neutral?
If you’re asking the question, then it sounds like you have a flair for color. I always say, pick a backsplash as bold as you are! If you want to express your unique personality and “wow” your friends and family, then color is the way to go.
Next week, we’ll be covering the hottest design trends for your entire home. Think shiplap, jewel tones, over-the-top statement features and beyond. For the first look at our new segments, be sure to follow along on Facebook. We look forward to having you join us on this journey of design explorations!
All the best,
