The popular 18.1 mile Monon Trail stretches through Hamilton and Marion counties, connecting Indianapolis, Carmel and Westfield in Indiana.
The Monon Trail is a rail trail, a disused railway converted into a multi-use path. This portion of the Monon Railroad was abandoned in 1987. In 1990, construction began to convert the railroad.
The trail is attractive and well designed, with an astonishing practicality as an urban transportation corridor. The trail stitches together neighborhoods, recreational facilities, cultural centers and schools.
